[Incredible stuff. The bandages don't bode well. Richie's unwound the one keeping his temple in check, trading the slutty toga for a more modest man's garb. Bomber jacket and a button up, well cut jeans. Regular clothes for regular folks, both of which seem to be in short supply around here. What's with the tuxedo tails?

Still, none of this keeps the grin off his face. Richie throws his hands wide.]

Lord Yves of Fries! How do you like them apples? [He drops easy into the nearest barstool and drums his hands on the wood.] Seems our prayers have been answered! "Ask and ye shall receive," indeed. Think if we whined hard enough about live entertainment they'd erect a Vegas revue?

[He takes a quick gander at the selection.]

What we looking at for scotch?

[He is. that he is...]

Well. I figured. [A mildly uncomfortable shrug.] All the plumbing ought to be the same.

"Reliver." [He takes a short moment with the word. Cute, concise. The kind of term you'd find in a horror comic on a rotating rack, good spooks for kids. He thinks of what it must be, rehashing the same cycle two or three or ten times. It leaves him wanting for a smoke.]

...So your folks, did they decide to opt-in?

[Are they still with him?]
gutterbound: (059)

that's so beautiful

[personal profile] gutterbound 2025-02-09 07:28 am (UTC)(link)
The City of Sin.

[Yves will never see it.]

Oh, shots, yes please. Let's keep it simple and strong. What do you drink?

[Aw. That's cute. He smiles, briefly, the subject's pretty grim but what else is humour for?]

I see. [His mouth quirks. His fingers drum on the counter.] You don't have to get too into it if you don't like. I mean, we just met. It's tough shit, losing your folks.

Both of mine passed in my mid-twenties. Cancer, two years apart. Helluva lot later than eleven, but god, don't it sting.

Very much so. Too bad we'll never see it now.

[Or Yves won't. Richie's been, and thank god he has little care for gambling. A place like that can get its hooks in you so deep you'd lose a limb trying to cut loose.]

Attaboy! [He'll pick up his first shot and clink it to Yves'] Next time we'll do it your way. How's that sound?

If you're sure.

[He really doesn't have to.]

Oh, they were pretty solid. My father was pretty clever, good sense of humour. Didn't mind telling it like it was and put up with my sorry antics with more patience than I deserved. My mother was a titch more reserved, but sharp as a tack too. I think she got overwhelmed at times, two men in the house and no female allies around to see a lick of sense, but hey. They didn't want more kids, and that was that.

What about yours? Were they all right to you before, or...?

Don't go too hard. Lay off if you start feeling dizzy, I've got about a decade of drinking experience on you and wouldn't be fair to abuse it.

Oh. You guys friendly?
gutterbound: (015)

[personal profile] gutterbound 2025-02-10 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
No kidding!

[He supposes they are of a set. In dress at least, close in age and all similarly good looking. Sort of in an insufferrably pretty way, the kind that'd get your nose cracked open if you ventured too far beyond blue state limits.

Which only reminds him of a different conversation over drinks. His smile quirks up intentionally, fighting a small fall.]

Now just how did you and Adolphe meet?

[personal profile] gutterbound 2025-02-10 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
They were good people, true. [He smiles, a bit rueful as it strikes him that at the very least, he ought to be able to see them. It's the afterlife isn't it? Where are all the dearly departed hiding out?

It's no use getting blue over it now. Save it for a bit of solitude, he's got company at the moment.]

That's real sweet of you, kiddo, but don't worry about it. You've got enough on your plate as is.

[As he handily details himself. Richie turns pensive again, picking apart the implications.]

Didn't know what to do? Could they not afford to take care of you?
gutterbound: (035)

[personal profile] gutterbound 2025-02-11 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Aw geez, I don't know, I was having a regular laugh riot before this.

[He claps the kid on the shoulder, gives him a gamely little shake.]

I don't mind if you don't, really. Life's full of tragedies. But I mean it, you don't have to go digging up your dirt just because someone asks.

Come again?

[It still doesn't sit so easy. They just got here. His burger's cooling down and the kid's not even got a meal himself. Richie pushes the fries and drink closer to him. Eat up, babychild.]

Well, I'm pretty hard to bowl over. I promise a sad tale or two won't weigh me down. I've heard plenty in my life.
