There are lots of problems to solve, so... I had to find answers. And one way to do that is by reading.
There's always problems to solve. Some years a territory doesn't yield as much produce as they expect, and we need to resolve the issue of food scarcity. Sometimes I read about agricultural practices in different parts of the world to see if there's anything we can do differently.
There are inheritance disputes, managing relationships between the counties, determining how to allocate troops... Right now we're at war as well, so there's that to deal with.
[ oh! he makes a little bit of an affronted face at the idea of no one being polite to claude.... annoyed on his behalf.

... you must work really hard, Claude. I wish people would be more respectful to you, if only to acknowledge that. That's a lot on your shoulders, and a lot of people to take care of.

Anyway, he pats the hand on his forearm. He doesn't seem too bothered by any of it, though it does seem like the gears are turning as his mind goes to all the problems yet unsolved. ]

As for my hometown... It's hot. I'm not sure you'd survive all the sun.
No snow... We didn't have these holidays either... Most people really focused on just living day by day and trying to survive with what little time we had.
So I guess it's one of the few ways this place feels like heaven, to get to experience things I might've liked while alive - with people whose company I enjoy.

Until recently, our island was cursed to live only to the age of 23... No one ever survived longer and would eventually fall to illness.
It's why people hated the lycoris flowers, because they thought they could trim down their already short lifespans... or were especially superstitious about anything that could kill them sooner.
Well, I didn't die from the illness? So that's good.

he just looks around at all the romantic decorations around them and contemplates how deeply he still craves love, despite everything he's seen ]
... but that scientist was a genius, and the leader of our country. He fell in love, and his lover died. Without his dedication to finding a cure, once he accomplished his life's goal... I think something in him shattered. A loneliness and a despair that no light or hope could touch.
So he ended up committing horrible experiments to try to bring her back, and a lot of people died until he was stopped. [ a beat ] I don't know what happens after that, but I do hope it gets better from here.
