at least it's enough time for yves to process most of his emotions so that he can be semi-presentable. sort of. he's coming back from bikini bottom at this point, rubbing at the unmasked side of his face to try to brush away all his stupid little tear tracks
at some point he bumps into claude on his way back ]
[ Oh no. Not Claude being a little taken aback by the tears. That's right. People cry... when they are sad.
He puts a hand on Yves' shoulder, and squeezes. ]
Yves. I'm sorry.
[ He has no idea that him and Adolphe are from the same place (unless Yves told him), but he knows that he was one of the Four Guys, and that's enough of a bond. ]
[ He shrugs, shoving his way into his room and heading to his bed. I didn't mention this yesterday because I was dying, but Claude has a big bed... and it would look very comfy if not for the fact that it's littered with books.
Claude will settle down uncaring if there's a book digging into his butt though. ]
It's alright. [ Looking at Yves with a little frown. ] You were close, right? With Adolphe.
[ yves will gently move some of the books aside so he doesn't sit on them, but he will try to keep them in the general vicinity so he doesn't throw off claude's (squints) organization system?
but he'll sit, running fingers through his own ponytail as he looks thoughtful ]
... he's my best friend.
[ a little more softly: ] This is the second time I've lost him.
[ when yves said that to him, heaven is a place where he can see his friends again, adolphe was a big part of it. ]
[ he can't deny that. the day that adolphe died four years ago felt like the beginning of the worst period of yves's life. he wonders if that'll be the same for his afterlife. ]
... I just wish his time stopped being cut so short.
[ why is yves always the one left with more time he doesn't want? ]
yves isn't the type to say so, just huffing out a breath that's almost a laugh. ]
Good. [ he does sound relieved, and he'll nestle his head against claude's shoulder some more, having gotten comfortable doing this over the past week ]
Then... please be alright enough for both of us, at least for today. I can pick up the slack again tomorrow.

yves looks just a little embarrassed, if only because he was caught off-guard, but he'll drop his hand. ]
... me too.
[ softly, voice a little hoarse. he'll reach to hold claude's hand in his, though it's a lighter touch than when yves normally reaches out. ]
Sorry. I don't think I'm very good company today.

You can't be any worse than I was at the height of my delirium yesterday. Come on.
[ Tapping his shoulder for Yves to follow him. ]
Come sit with me.
[ He's just going to lead them back to his room. Bed, comfy. ]

He died once already, in your world? The threat you thought you'd taken care of...?
no subject
No... He died four years ago, defending the orphanage he grew up in against an attack orchestrated by the Royal Guard.
[ his fingers hit a tangle in his own hair, and end up twisting against the strands idly ]
... still stings.

Why would anyone attack an orphanage?

[ like there is one but it's not justifiable at all ]
... I've never forgiven them for that.

I'm sorry, friend... It seems you and those you care for have had to endure too much hardship.

This is a sorry state for an afterlife. We can only hope the guardians are able to locate him and the others.

but... once he's there, he does pillow his head on claude's shoulder. ]
... right. I'll wait as long as it takes for them to find him again. [ soft, but determined
a pause ]
Are you okay?

[ He blinks, the question unexpected. ]
I'm not thrilled that we've lost any more people, but... I'm alright.
