yves will at least make good on his word - he will be back to the room around nightfall. he's quiet, wondering if he's already fallen asleep and whispering when he first enters ]
You might not always like what I say, but I'll do my best not to lie to you.
[ since he can tell laurence wasn't a fan of what he said over text, but... he really did just need time. he'll go to sit on his own bed and look at his hands ]
... so I'm going to be honest, Laurence... I don't think anyone can help right now. I miss my best friend. I think that's all it is.
[ he can almost imagine it. it's not quite the same - iris is alive somewhere, and not exactly a friend, but his absence was somehow louder than the problems caused by all his art mumbo jumbo. ]
But it doesn't feel right to do nothing.
[ laurence never was there when he was needed before. that still sits with him. ]
[ then yves will hold onto his hands. yves' are cold from being outside, but he doesn't seem to be shivering. he'll just run his thumbs over laurence's knuckles as he speak ]
... Adolphe's not always the best judge of himself either. [ gently amused ]
But he's one of the best people I know. Back home, it was always me, him, and Hugo—my partner at Courrune. Adolphe didn't always like being around others, but he would always indulge you once he got used to you. I'd show up at his house to drink, and he'd never turn me away or throw me out. If I ever got into trouble, he'd help bail me out of it. Maybe he'd sigh, but he'd never abandon me.
He's reliable and strong. Genuine, never hiding what he thought. You never had to second guess things with him.
[ a little pause, and a little more choked up ]
... he could tell you things would be okay, and you'd just believe it. So I guess... I miss that right now.
[ this is important to yves, so laurence listens closely, trying to build that picture up in his mind. he did say that adolphe seemed like a nice guy before, and hearing yves really cements it. you don't talk about people like that if they're not. ]
Sounds like he had to put up with a lot. But I can see why you trusted him so much.
[ reliable, strong, never abandoning the ones he cared about.
laurence stares at the floor for a moment, hesitant. ]
...The angels said that their souls aren't gone. So he's still out there somewhere, just like Charlie and the others.

You really don't like to let other people help you, do you?
Fine. I'll be here whenever.

Laurence...? You awake...?

- Huh? Wha... oh. You're back.
[ he sounds a little surprised, honestly. ]
no subject
I said I would, right...? And I know you were worried... I didn't want to keep you too long.
[ he'll shift to turn more of the lights on then, even though it makes it obvious his eyes are red and he's clearly been crying ]

[ now that the lights are on, yves will see his flowers have all closed. but enough about him, he watches yves with a frown. ]
Can I help at all...?

Will you let me talk about him?
Adolphe. So someone else besides me knows how great he is. [ a beat ] Was.

Yeah. I... wanted to get to know him better, but I feel like I didn't talk to him enough.
[ always a little too late for that. ]
